Pickgaurd, and extra holes what do you do?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys, got a jazz bass 70's jazz bass and recently put a 62 reissue pickgaurd on it. With the extra thumbrest holes, was wondering what people do with the extra holes. Just leave it? Ever get debri inside the bass? I was thinking black electrical tape, but that might look stupid. Any help would be great.

If you're concerned about what the tape would look like, why not put it on the back side of the pickguard?

I took the thumb rest off my 62P in about 1969 and gigged it up until about 4 years ago, no debris got in. The extra holes never bothered me, after a while you forget they are there.

I put it back on recently so I don't loose it, I thought about putting the bridge cover and pickup cover back on but they are a bit more difficult to loose and I don't think I could play with a pickup cover on anyway.

Yes, or you could drill out the holes and install a thumbrest/tugbar?.

No, 'cos the holes in the pickguard are over solid wood in the body.

You could of course get another pickguard without any holes for the thumbrest/tugbar and the Ashtrays.
