Pickguard pilot hole help

Sign in to disble this ad
I need to put an aftermarket pickguard on my bass, and the screw holes don't line up on the pickguard. I googled for the correct pilot hole bit size I would need, but I am getting conflicting results. In some, the pilot hole bit is said to be 1/16 for hardwood while others say to use 5/64 for hardwood. Can anybody shed some real advice on this?

If you drill one test hole, you can always make it bigger - but not smaller.

Never thought of that. Of course, that means I have to buy both drill bits.

True, but if you don't already have a full set which includes those and many others - it's time to pony up and buy them.
