Hey i was wondering a way to make a custom pickguard for my Peavey Milestone. I cannot order a black one straight from peavey and when i contacted Pickguardian.com they said a custom one made out of regular material would cost 45$!! That with the shipping would make it be a 55$ piece of plastic.

Are there any alternatives then this, any cheaper makers / good ways to make one? My Pickguard snapped so i'm in need of a new one.

Heck, $45 is pretty standard for a pre-made one. I paid that for a pearloid Fender Jazz guard. I don't think you're going to find it any cheaper.

Its not the plastic that costs $$$, its cutting it and beveling the edges that leads to the cost. Strict tolerances for it to fit correctly.

Custom pg's are usually more expensive. $65 to $85 is common. Count yourself lucky you want something in standard black material.

If you really want to go cheaper, then just epoxy the crack back together, and use some copper or aluminum adhesive foil to support the back face behind the crack.

You could buy a chunk of pg material and try to make your own. I did that once and it took me a few hours (I used a file and a hacksaw). In the end a pro made one will likely look better.

Maybe just duct tape your current one together until you can afford the extra cash.

i would try to find someone locally to do it. tell them about how you don't want to pay that much for one, and maybe they'll somehow be able to either make you one, or hook you up with one for cheaper. I happened to come across someone who had a shop in their garage on craigslist, i went and checked him out, became pretty good friends with him, and he's been pretty good to me so far with maintenance and what not, definitely a lot cheaper than my local guitar shop was charging me for the same things.

Just an option....Over here the PG making seems to be cheaper (for some reason). I recently had a custom plate made for £17 (thats $25) including postage. I'm not sure how much the shipping would be to the US, but I doubt it would be $20, so sending it to the UK may be an option. I will post the site here if your interested.

If you're spending that much...

If you're spending that much, why not go for something more distinctive?

http://www.greasygroove.com/pbasspickguards.php

About the same price, though you'll need to send them a tracing for an exact fit.

Oh yeah, they have plain black ones too.
