Pickguards - Easiest way to widen V/T/J holes on a non-Fender P Bass?

Sign in to disble this ad
Is there an easy way to expand the size of the vol/tone/jack holes on a non-Fender P Bass pickguard without specialized tools. I have 3/8" CTS pots and the holes are a little too narrow to fit.

Thanks, Rick

A mechanics reamer, which is a specialized tool, but you can get one cheap just about anywhere

I've used these with good results. They can be a bit pricey though, but You'd have'em for the next time You needed them.

A round file
A drill bit
Dremel
Steak knife
Exacto knife

I've used all of these before to widen the hole with great success

round file.. many of the suggested methods have the potential to dork your guard.

Drills etc all have the possiblity of grabbing the guard...

If the OP is asking a question like this, it's prudent to help him with a "right sized" reply.

----

I'm qualified to note that several of the methods above are riskier than a round file and patience.

I'll have to agree with the above. Rat tail files are the best way as you can't work them fast enough to overheat and deform the pickguard, and you can precisely figure out when to stop filing.

files wont leave a perfectly round hole, a tapered reamer will. you can get one @ home deblow. dont get a stepped reamer. johnny a.
