what i did was just put the cover where i wanted it and marked where i would have to put the screws in, then i drilled a little guide hole then put screws in..

I've had this problem with locating covers on a bass that didn't have them before. It seemed there were lots of "wrong" ways to set them in place. I used double sided tape on the flanges and played around with placement. I wanted to make sure they were centered and squared to the centerline of the instrument. Once the perfect spot had been found, I marked the holes and drilled - PG and body for stainless steel screws.

Since I don't know much about it, what are the pro's and cons of having a pickup or even a bridge cover (besides it being awesome lookin')?

That's about it. Some people use it as a thumbrest, others find it gets in the way. I've always taken them off P's, and added them to J's. That's just me.

HOWEVER, they must be taken off in order to restring. So if you restring constantly, they become a PITA.

BTW, to the OP, that looks great on there!
