Pickup Cover

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently bought a 1978 P bass. It has the original chrome cover for the bridge, but is missing the cover for the pickups. I would like to find a cover for the pickups to restore the bass to its original configuration, although I may hate trying to play the bass with it in place.

Question: are p bass pickup covers year specific or will any pickup cover from that era fit? And where is a good place to start looking to find one?

Thanks!

to my knowledge they are all the same. finding an original one will be tricky. new and old ones pop up pretty regularly on ebay. but if its a vintage piece expect to pay more. i got lucky with my '73, it came with the original covers.

How concerned are you about replacing it with an actual 70's cover? You'll have to look on Ebay or maybe CL for that, but expect to pay an arm and a leg for one. If you're not concerned, then proper covers are easy to find . Musician's Friend, Allparts, BassPartsResource all have new ones for relatively cheap. I had a '78 P with both original covers on it, and the pickup cover got flattened once when it was off the bass, and I bought a new one and it fit perfectly

Thanks to all of you for the response. I will check out the chrome cover at Bass Parts Resource now that I know it will fit the '78.
