Pickup Height Issue With 50s MIM P Bass

Sign in to disble this ad
In trying to change the pickup height of my 50s MIM P Bass, I see that the black plastic outer housing of the pickups is moving, but the metal magnet part inside is not moving.

It appears that the housing has separated from the windings/magnets. Adjusting the pickup height screws in effect is changing nothing.

Has anyone experienced this, too? Any advice?

Anyone? Anyone have the pickup housing move, and the pickup inside stay put?

Any advice?

The black pickup covers are just that...covers. They are not attached to the pickups, so there's nothing to worry about in that respect.

Fender pickups usually have some spongey foam under them to raise them. Maybe the foam isn't thick enough, or has lost it's "springyness".

Just find some springy, foamy material (I used to use old mouse pads), and cut it to fit under your pickups, and get the thickness (the mouse pads usually required more than 1 layer) to allow for your desired pickup height.
