pickup mounting screwholes

Sign in to disble this ad
OK, while assembling a new bass, I messed up the locations of the pickup mounting screwholes I put the pickup in the rout, and used screws to punch locations for drilling the pilot holes, the pickup must have moved because tightening the screws puts pressure on the pickup ears instead of allowing up and down adjustment. Looks like 2 holes on 1 side are closer to each other than the other side. It should not be a huge deal but it bugs the hell out of me.
So what is the best way to fix this? tiny dowels? redrill bigger and use inserts this time (I don't have a press so ) or filling with epoxy or such

please let me know

I've repaired stripped holes by using a toothpick cut to fit into the hole. use a little Titebond original to glue the shaved toothpick into place and then re-drill your pilot holes

depending on how far off you were, you may not even need to wait for the glue to dry

note that while this method is good for pickup screw holes, it is not recommended as a means for repairing stripped neck screw holes

all the best,

R

thanks Rodent. I found out that if I used skinnier screws, I may be able to get by, may need some filing of the ear holes also!
