Pickup Rest for 51 RE

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all ive been playing my fender 51 reissue and resting my thumb on the single coil pickup makes it move side to side, messing with how the strings get picked up,i just recently put on the pickup cover and decided to rest my thumb on that, however i can only really play toward the bridge side as its awkward to play towards the neck with the cover,

Ive heardof richenbackers pickguardian? or aftermarket pickups ring that is easier on the thumb,is their such a thing for a fender 51?

You could adhere a thumb rest to the bass with double sided trim tape (automotive) as not to ruin it by drilling into it. I've seen a lot of neat ideas on here for that including one made out of clear plastic or lucite that you can even see from a distance.

well im not too much of a fan of the separate rest as i love anchoring my thumb on the pickup itself where i think u get the most response, and really digging in,a thumb rest would have my thumb a bit too far away for my liking

Why not stick some neoprene mouse pad material under the pickup so it won't shift? problem solved.
