Pickup tightening on Zon Sonus 4

Sign in to disble this ad
Greetings,

I have an '06 Zon Sonus 4 (2 narrow "J" soapbars). Love the bass, by the way.

I had a gig Friday night, and all went well. I pulled out the bass on Saturday, and I noticed on the G string that playing past the 10th fret or so resulted in a completely muted string. At first I thought that the the string had somehow become lower, and visions of neck problems whirled through my head. I raised the saddle a full turn, and that seemed to help a bit, but the string still was still muted when played up on the higher frets.

I was relieved to notice today that it's the rear pickup that's creating the problem. The rear pickup has become loose, and it is so high now that the string is actually becoming muted by the rear pickup.

I took out my screwdriver and tried to tighten the lower screw, but I seem to be tightening in vain. The whole pickup seems pretty loose actually, but not so much it would fall out easily. I don't want to strip anything, so I thought I'd look for insights before proceeding further.

Can anyone give me some general advice on tightening a Sonus pickup?

Regards and Thanks!

maybe the hole of the screw just became too loose for it to properly grab in the wood. You could remove the pick-up, fill the hole with wood putty and redo it.

Or you could just put a toothpick in the hole and try tightening the screw in it again. I usually do that for strap buttons. in your case the hole is smaller but it should work...

Does the screw just turn in the hole and not move into the body? Or is it impossible to turn?

The screw turns, but to no avail. Good tip on wood putty. Maybe I just need to take the pickup off and see what's going on under there.

And thanks for the responses! :-)
