Question Pickup unsprung?? how to

Sign in to disble this ad
Just bought a used squier CVJ bass to keep company with the VM - 'gently used'. A few little marks on it, nothing major. It needs setting up properly and intonating. The neck pickup appears to be 'floppy'.. I noted right off that it was sitting very low, so I tweaked the screws and it doesn't move, at least not much. If I grip it and pull it up, it moves, but doesn't want to stay there.
Is this an issue of a spring underneath the pickup being out of position or ???

all help appreciated.

There is a piece of high density foam under the p'up. You need to remove the pup and add more foam. Heavy duty weatherstrip, old mouse pads etc. Glue enough to double the thickness (maybe even triple) and you're good to go. You will have to push down on pup to screw it down so you don't mess up the screw head.
