Pimp my warwick

Sign in to disble this ad
So I just recently bought a pre 2003 Warwick corvette 5 and it's in need of some TLC. I got it from guitar center for 455 bucks if that tells you how bad it is. I need help in a few areas of repair.

1. How do I slide out the truss rod to replace it and where do I get them?
2. What is the best clear coat to use on a natural wood finish? I want something tough yet easy to apply
3. Where can I go to get a new bridge? The one it has is fine, it's just got some corrosion and I'm OCD about how my bass looks
And last, where do I get a Warwick truss rod cover?

Thanks!

Yikes.. All those problems for $455? I'd probably just return it.. That's a h*** of a fixer-upper.

I agree with TheBasicBassist, you can spend a few hundred more and find one of these used in the classifieds with no issues. That's a LOT of work! Unless you just *want* to do the work to get the practice or something, then *shrug*

The truss rod part sounds the worse. Not that I have ever done any work with them, but I will say that sounds like something a bit more labor intensive than just sliding the truss rod out and moving on.

Good luck none the less! The bridge and truss rod cover could both be gotten through a Warwick retailer of through Warwick itself.

They sell the parts on their website.

They also sell truss rod covers. Obviously, they're extremely expensive. As in, 30 euros for one (about $45).

For the finish, I'm not really sure but I think the wax that most warwicks come with should suffice (if that's what you're looking for).

One advantage war wicks have is the truss rods can be slid out and replaced with next to no effort. the neck isn't warped at all it just either needs a new end nut (the current one is rough but not totally stripped) or it needs a whole new rod. Either way I can fix it myself easily. I'm in for the work because when it's done it's gonna be like no other Warwick out there. The funny part is, even with all these problems, it sounds AMAZING. The only reason I dived for it is because I knew it wasn't anything I couldn't handle. I enjoy the work

Hm, learn something new everyday. I didn't know that about the truss rods.

Good luck!

Any warwicks made after 1996-1997 have a different truss rod from their older counterparts. They do not slide out. You have to pull the fretboard. If all that is wrong is it's a bit rough at the end, just live with it.

Would I be able to just replace the nut on the end of the truss rod? I have a spare
