Pitch related crackling?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello all, i have a bass that has been giving me issues for awhile, with some crackling that drives me up the wall. I started trying to fix it by changing the instrument cable, and then i changed all the cables to my amp/cabs. Then I had my amp professionally serviced to see if anything was loose, nothing. So i'm convinced it's inside the guitar. However, it seems like a weird problem because it doesn happen until after i've been playing for about 5 minutes, and that's when i have the contour control 'on'. If i turn it off, the only notes that crackle are the low B string notes. With the contour on, most of the higher notes (and interestingly not the B string notes) make a raspy noise that interferes with my sound. Does anyone know what gives? Is this a grounding issue? Should the input jack be replaced/repaired? I'm not sure what to do, but I dislike playing my rig the way it is set up so it's a major problem. Anyone with any suggestions let me know, thanks alot.

the problem is a bit vague to identify the root cause...

have you tried taking rig AND bass to a pro together?

if it only happens after you've been playing 5 mins...I'm still hanging onto the amp being problematic. Have you tried a different bass, different amp...you know, isolate the problem.
