Please explain the purpose of this peculiar bolt...

Sign in to disble this ad
on my Cort "Performer Series" bass. Here is a photo, I'm referring to the bolt with the hex-head:

Maybe something to do with the truss rod? But my bass has a conventional adjustment on the headstock so I'm not sure:

Thanks for any advice on what the bolt is and how to use it. I have been curious since I bought the bass. Here is a picture of the entire instrument.

My only guess would be it gives a bassline adjustment on the angle of the neck.

yep, it seems like it's like the old fender adjustable neck bolt

if that's the case, you can slightly loosen the neck screws and then use the bolt to apply pressure to the underside of the neck heel and tilt it if necessary

Thanks, I think I get the idea. However I did a google search on "bassline", and a search on this forum without getting anything relevant. Is this the correct term?

Sorry, that was my bad spelling. I meant baseline. Just means starting point.

G&L used something similar called a 'microtilt'.

I think Fender should come back w/this feature on their basses,IMO.(Or have they?)I much prefer it.

It's the microtilt just like on my late '50s-early '60s Danelectros.

It's most likely what everyone else said. A way to adjust the angle the neck sits on the body. Instead of shimming the neck, you adjust the angle with that allen key. Probably the way to do it would be like the Fender, Music Man, G&L, Peavey, and Danelectro ones worked. Detune the string so they're about half as tight as normal. Loosen the two screws closest to the bridge all the way, and loosen the other two wood screw holding the neck in about half-way. Turn the allen screw. Clockwise (righty tighty) if the neck needs to come up and have a flatter angle. Counterclockwise if the neck needs to have a more steep angle. Then tighten all four neck bolts (well, actually they're wood screws, not bolts), retune and check it.

Of course, if it's already set up well, OR IF IT CAN be set up well without touching that screw, then don't mess with it.

Thanks for your contributions. I'm happy with the current setup of the bass so I'll leave it alone for now. I'm pleasantly surprised to see that adjustment on a cheap bass.
