Unhappy Please Help Me!!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

Am new to this forum and just joined it today.

I own a humble Squire Vintage fretless and would like to find out what I could do to enhance a nice fretless growl by way of strings and pickup customisation.

So my questions are:

1) What strings would you recommend for bass with the ebanol fretboard?

2) What is a good pickup to install?

Thanks heaps!!!

Eugene

Ebanol is very hard, so any good set of strings will do, flats or rounds. Rounds will give you more 'Mwah' if that's what you are looking for.

Again, different makes of pup sound different, All decent brands produce a good sound/tone to *someone's* ears. Depends what you're looking for - big pillowy bass, percussiveness, mids etc etc.

If you're a newbie, you'll need to listen around for a sound you like, then find out how it's made(!)

Smile pickups

Hi Geoff,

Thanks for your tip and appreciate the reply.

On the subject of customising pickups, would you recommend any good pickups to install to get the nice fretless sound?

Thanks again.

Eugene

Ebanol is NOT very hard. I put grooves in my VM fretless with roundwounds. I've come to terms with that, so I got some Rotos. Very light gauge. They give me a phenomenal "mwah".

SpamBot,

Which very light gauge Rotos are you using?

I'm using the Jaco "standard" RS66LD (45-105) set, which I love - but I've been wondering if the RS66LC's (40-95) might give me even more mwah.

(I do plan on trying a set...)

Thanks!!
