Please help with setup!!!!!!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi, I'm trying to setup my Road Worn Jazz bass i just bought and i was wondering if you guys could help me out. I'm trying to setup the action right now and they say for the bass side do 7/64" and the treble side 6/64". So basically my question is what does bass and treble side mean? I've already had a pro do a setup on it and i think the truss rod and everything else is fine but it was still buzzing a lot past the 12th fret so i think it may just need higher action.

Thanks for any help.

Treble side means the G string side, bass would be the opposite side, the E string. If its still buzzing after a pro set up take it back to him!

Bass means "low E", treble means "high G"

Kudos to you for setting up your bass...only YOU know how you like your bass setup.

you are kidding right?

IMO, if you don't know the difference between the bass and treble side, you probably shouldn't be trying to set it up yourself. Just take it back to the pro and let him handle it.

When you are more familiar with your instrument, then by all means do all the setting up and modding you want...but until then you will be risking ruining your instrument.

To answer your question if you weren't kidding, the thick strings would be on the bass side, the thinner strings would be on the treble side.

Take it slowly and remember you need to set the intonation again after you raise the saddles. What pro set it up and left it with a buzz. You might want to call him back on it bro..... I would.

I'd adjust it myself, you don't need to be a bass player at all to do a decent adjustment. I've bought a couple of basses from a music store that said it would be adjusted on delivery.....both weren't even close.

I mean you'd be justified taking it back....some give you something like free adjustment for a year......but for basic adjustment, truss rod, bridge height, intonation, pickup height, I'd learn how to do it myself right away. It ain't hard and you'll save yourself a lot of time, etc.

I was thinking that was what it meant but i just wanted to be sure. The setup only cost 30 bucks and everything else was fine so i think i'll let it slide and just not go back to that guy for setups anymore. I adjusted the action now and it plays awesome.

Thanks alot everyone for the advice!!!
