Polar Fleece String Mute

Sign in to disble this ad
Most everybody knows about the foam or felt mute that can be placed over or under the strings. I had an old fleece jacket that was getting a little thread bare in places, so I cut up part of it, rolled to about the width of a cigar and fed it under the strings of my bass. Works great and I can pull it out whenever I want. Just sharing. Cheers!

Nice idea. I have played around with string mutes--definitely gives you a sound that youdon't get any other way. Foam is kind of messy if you take it in an out--nothing else is quite springy enough. Hmm, where'd I put that old fleece jacket. . .

I've used a dish washing sponge cut into strips. Cut it along the length and it's long enough for at least a 5 string bass.

I use mouse pads. I cut out a square the size of the bridge foot print, fold it in half, and stuff it under (or over depending on the bass)
