polishing inlays?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys,
i've noticed that my Nordstrands block inlays are starting to yellow a bit, and was wondering if its possible to bring them back to the original pearly white shine?
Thanks a bunch!

I don't know what your inlays are made of, but all I can say is that people have been trying to find the "magic formula" to whiten Mother of Pearl, drumsets, pickguards and other "vintage" stuff that has yellowed and to date NOBODY has managed to do it. From my own experiments on my MOP vintage drumset, I can tell you that nothing I tried did anything at all. No bleaches or other chemicals did squat. Sorry.

On the other hand if you'd like to go the other way, a UV (suntan) lamp will really speed up the yellowing process!

This works well. You might want to mask off your fretboard to limit the polishing effect to the inlays.

I really like these flexible polishing papers. I use them to buff out frets, pearl side dots, nuts and some finish work.
