Possible bridge problem.

Sign in to disble this ad
So, i'm upgrading an old bass, massively. I recently found out due to some nice advice, the bridge is a factory original, and sought after part.

One issue.

The pieces that the strings run through, that control how high the strings are.

One was stripped/had a large screw forced into it.

Photobucket

I don't know if this will be an issue, since this is my first time actually fixing/working with a bass.

Any opinions or answers?

Go to an automotive store/hardware store and ask for Helicoils. A capable store specialist will be able to determine the proper thread size (take a undamaged part as well). You will drill out the damaged part, and re-thread the part. The Helicoil is a set of threads that will screw into the bored-out part and act as a un-damaged set of threads. I have used them many times, and they work great. Now..we can only hope that they come in that size...Or..you can just re-thread the part out to the next size threads,(considering that the part was already bored out by the oversize screw) which would be much easier, as well as cheaper...

Do they make these Helicoils in brass, and small enough???
