Possible Dumb String Gauge/Nut Question

Sign in to disble this ad
I just bought a Lakland Skyline 55-01 and would like to put on some nickel DRs. The stock Lakland strings feature a .128 low B string. Can I go ahead and put on a .130 low B, or would I have to use a .125 in order to not damage the nut? I'd rather go with the .130 low B.

Maybe I'm over thinking this...

I'd readily jump 0.002" in gauge; I give it extremely low odds of harming the nut, & nuts being fairly cheap . . .

as long as the .130 is not PINCHED in the nut, no worries!

It will PROBABLY fit, but make sure. Don't force it into the slot or you may break the nut. You can widen the slot with a piece of fine sandpaper rolled up tightly into a rod shape. If you do that, go slow, check often.
