Pre-clear coat sanding

Sign in to disble this ad
Just want to check with the experts, I shouldn't sand right before I clear coat right? I just sanded down with 600 grit and I still have some streaky sandpaper marks. I wiped down with naptha. Should I shoot one more coat of color finish then clear coat it?

In my experience it is not necessary to sand the color before applying the clear.

I've only used urethane color and catalyzed urethane clear coat.

What are you using?

I would respray the color coat until the color is even. Then start your clear coats, until you have at least 2 full cans, using the "Rules of Three". After 30 days or so of curing , then start the wetsanding/polishing steps.
