Question Pre-slotted BadAss II on P bass

Sign in to disble this ad
To all

I'm thinking of installing a BadAss II on my P bass and was wondering if anyone has put the new model with the pre-slotted saddles on their P bass? If so, how do the pre-slotted saddles line up with your neck / pickups? Ok, no issues? I like the idea of the pre-slotted saddles as it seems easier than having to slot the saddles yourself as I've always done in the past.

Any feedback is apreciated.

The pre-grooved Badass II bridges have 4 or 5 grooves in each saddle - no problem finding the right spacing. I've put them on Ps and Js.

Way easier than slotting them yourself.

Hope this helps.

Do they seem to have the same attack and punch of the older type saddles? I love the sound of the bridge but it's a pain for me slotting the saddles as I don't have my files anymore.

Thanks

It's been years since I had an old one on one of my basses. I don't remember there being a big difference in sound. Sorry, but I don't have one of the old ones to compare with right now. If I remember right, I don't think I even slotted the old one.

The fact you know it's not quite the same will probably cause a slight difference in sound.

LOL True the mind is a funny thing. The minute you think something is different, whether it is or not, your mind will refuse to let it go. I think I'll go for the pre-slotted and roll with it.

I just bought some preslotted saddles for a BAII to replace the ones my tech botched. I assume you can use any of the slots on each saddle that you want. I'm curious, though: for all but one of the slots (the middle one), doing it that way causes the string to bend at an angle prior to entering the saddle -- is that a problem for how the string vibrates? Could this be a bad thing?

Probably not, the pre-slotted saddles are very smooth on the edges for the grooves. Listen close as you tune and detune it and see if you can hear any creaking around the saddle which would indicate binding or hanging up at the saddle. The string should be the same vibration wise in any groove of the saddle. Try it in each slot and see if you can notice a difference.

Keep Low
