problem doing shielding

Sign in to disble this ad
hi guys..just want to consult you all..because last night ive tried to shield the control cavity of my sx bass...so ive done everything ive learned here on TB.ive used aluminum foil/tape...and ive check the continuity using my ohmmeter, and i do believe that if you get zero(0) or at very minimal amount that's when you achieved the continuity(this is the part where you correct me)...so anyway ive avhieved continuity in all parts of the cavity..i even put a thin long copper wire to connect the bridge pick cavity to the control cavity.and put the ground wire in the control cavity as well..

so when im reassembling the bass back, ive noticed that whenever the pots and the out put jack touches the cavity wall it losses its signal or doesnt produce a sound in the amp..

so why is that happening guys and what is the best solution?thankz

I am no expert but it seems to me that the signal (which goes through the pots and through the output jack) gets shorted to ground. I would make sure that all the pots and the jack can't touch the shielding (you can just remove a small bit of it or put some insulator between it).

would it affect the shielding effect if i put another layer of aluminum tape over the cavity? i mean would it affect the continuity?
