So when I first got my bass

It had good tapping tone!
now it's like NOT GOOD
it sounds like "peck" not notes!
I have tried to set it up, epically failing... what can I do? I'm pretty lost here to "set-up the bass" so I can tap
I cannot even get a good note sounding, it sounds like 3 maybe 4 notes being moshed into one (just by tapping on the 12th E fret!)
I got the tools to do a set-up if someone helps me?
I wanna get a good tap tone and also SLAP tone, which I get really bad now... sounds too percussive!
