Is this a problem? (Nut pictures inside) + where to find a brass nut.

In the process of defretting my MIM Fender Jazz, I happened to notice that my nut is off center... or atleast on side of it was hanging out and the other was set inwards respectively. Kinda looking like this:

Now, I've had some problems with the E string buzzing at pretty much any and every action level. Think this is what was causing the problem? I take it there's no chance that it's supposed be off like that?

While I've got your attention, any chance you nice folks would be able to direct me to where I could find a brass nut to install? I'd like the brighter tone and more elongated sustain of brass vs. whatever Fender is using.

You can just slide the nut back into place. That's the beauty of the Fender style nuts. As for brass nuts...here.

So, are Fender nuts not glued in? I kind of figured they would be.

Sometimes you'll run into one that someone has glued in, but no, they are not supposed to be glued in.

I think that the vast majority of repair people do glue the nut, but use a very minimal amount of glue. just enough to prevent the shifting that the OP describes.

Don't use super-glue. Use a small amount of Elmer's Glue -all. You might want to replace it someday.
