problem re: fretless fender jazz

Sign in to disble this ad
ok, please bear with me here, i'm new...i think this is a setup problem but i'm not entirely sure. i've been playing a while but i'm not hugely au fait with the technical side of things.

right, basically i play a standard fretless fender jazz, and the A and D strings don't really give an audible tone above the 11/12th 'fret'. i'm assuming this is a problem with the setup given that these strings are fine below that position (i also tried swapping strings with another bass and it didn't make a difference) and that it's only those two strings that have the problem...the action and bridge both look fine to my untrained eye, but the eye in question really is very untrained.

so, what do you guys think the problem is likely to be? is it a common thing, and can i sort it myself? i could just take it into a shop, i suppose, but i'd rather avoid that if possible.

cheers!
sam
