Problem with the way I play

Sign in to disble this ad
I play right handed upside down, so the G string is on top when I play. However, When I use a strap I can only get access to the 12th fret and nothing beyond that comfortably. Looking for some solutions here. I though about moving the strap button, but I don't want to have to drill another hole in the bass...Anyone got any options?

How about learning how to play the right way and save yourself some wrist issues down the road?

+1, I can't see why you would want to play that way.

So you are playing a right handed bass, upsidedown and in a left handed position?

Is it the horn that was formally known as the upper horn that is blocking fret access?, or because the strap is attached to that horn and then getting between you and the neck?

And lastly...

Why?

Will this take away all value from the bass?

Grew up playing like this because all the instruments in the house were right handed, and I am left handed

Mount it on the lesser horn under your sternum, or behind the neck. Is that a guy or girl playing guitar?

Any way I could put a strap button in on of the 3 neck plate holes?

that's an interesting idea. You could maybe get a longer screw, and put the strap-button under the screw-head (in between the screw and plate).

i don't know how this would effect the neck though.

You have have to tighten it down good and get a longer screw (probably 1/4 inch longer)

The bass may have REALLY bad balance and try to tip forward.

Your best solution is probably to get a lefty bass and string it the way you want.

If you put a strap button on the other body horn or the neck plate, the bass will be WAY off balance. You'll be holding the neck up all night. I'd buy a lefty bass or a lefty body to move the rest of the parts to. You can still string it upside down.

Of course you could. Epiphone and other manufacturers have done this for years. Balance is a separate issue - try it and see if you like it.

All you need is a longer screw of the same diameter as the original, and drill out the strap button so the screw will go through. DO NOT get too long a screw or it will punch through the fretboard on the front of the neck!
