Problems with Ibanez GW

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello there. I've been playing with a borrowed Ibanez GW 5 strings, when I picked it up it was apparently new, the owner had used it once or twice. But it had and still has some problems, which I didn't notice at first because I was, well, a noob (still am :P ).

First thing, it had been in the case for years before I picked it up, with the original strings on. So I had to adjust the truss rod. Then, it began to buzz on the first 5 frets, and after a more careful inspection, I noticed that if I look through the B string side, the neck is perfectly straight. But on the other side, it's not, it... still bends out. And if I adjust it using that side as a reference, it doesn't form a straight line, it's... slightly wavy near the 5th fret. Hence the buzz, I believe.

Another problem, the neck is not in place, the A string should be directly above the dots in the fretboard, and it's not, it tilts a bit to the right. This makes the G string drift out of the frets, which... isn't pretty in a gig.

Right now I adjusted the truss rod so I can still hear fret buzzing on the first fret, but still it's a little too uncomfortable above the 14th.

Hoping to buy a new bass for me in a few months, but until then, is there anything I can do with this?
