Problems with an oldskool hollowbody

I just purchased an old Epiphone EA-260. And it was in far worse condition than I thought. After restringing it [during which I had to spend 3 hours on the E-string alone], I found a nice little problem.
Trussrod upbow like you wouldn't believe.
I don't trust the local repair shop here in Marietta GA: the last time I asked them to fix an upbow on my '82 Precision they replaced the bridge and restrung it, then denied that it happened. So I'm not going there.
Anyway, should I repair this myself or get a professional to do it? I would do it if it were a solidbody, but it's hollow, and frankly it doesn't seem very durable.
My only other option is drive 4 hours north and take it to the Curbow shop to have them repair it. But I don't have the money. And I have a gig soon.
Help, please!
also, what kind of foam is used on a string damper? It needs to be replaced.
