Putting on the electronics

I am restoring a p-body strat bass and the pick guard was broken, so I bought a new gold anodized metal one. My question is when I put in the electronics do I have to put like electrical tape down between the electronics and the back of the pickguard?

There is no reason to place an insulating layer between the wiring and the pickguard. The wires that carry signal are already insulated and the ground wires may or may not be but do not matter.

As far as getting a shock goes, you are the path to ground. There is a wire running from the bridge to the ground circuit. When you touch the strings you physically complete the circuit. You will hear the hum disappear. The chances of receiving a shock from this low voltage system are very small.
