Question =(

I don't really know where to post this but here seemed to make sense

Bout a few days ago my bass has just started making a strange sound whenever I hammer on my D string, kinda near 10-14 frets. I can't tell if it's the strings themselves or if a fret's come loose. I've checked the 12th fret, and what I see is a crack along the bottom of the fret running down. It's not noticible, and honestly it looks filled in or something. I can't tell if it's making the sound. I've boiled my strings and they still make the sound. Could that teeny tiny crack affect the sound the strings make?

the fret itself lookscracked? Like from the side of the neck you see this? If it is craked, as in the fret crown is separating fromthe tang, there could definitely be some odd vibration noises happenning....it really dowsn't cost that much to have a good repairman pull the fret and pop a new one in and level it.

Either way, i'd have a tech take a peek at it. Best of luck.

Where the fret is in the wood, there's a crack in the wood itself, like a stress crack. It' hard to explain I guess, but looking at the 12th fret horizontally, where you would see the 2 dots side by side, looking at the fret there's a small crack under the fret. So yea I guess there is some space, and I decided to wiggle the fret and it feels loose. I'm going to take it to a repair shop and see what can be done.

here's what they can do:

wick some superglue in the crack and fret slot while pushing down on the fret.

do a fret level, crown, and polish.

restring and rock out.
