| Question about building a bass.

Hi, I was going to attempt to build a bass as a woodwork assignment next year. I really want to have a set neck, but don't trust my self to build a neck. So I was wondering if there was anyway to buy a neck designed to be put in a neck thru bass, or if it is possible to say add an extension to the end of the neck so I could build the rest around it. Sorry if I don't make much sense, I'm not exactly a master in this category.
