Question about Might Mite necks

Sign in to disble this ad
So, I have a project bass with a Fender MIM J neck on it. Problem is, the neck isn't all that straight and I can't get the action where I want it. It's playable, not terrible, but pretty high and uneven. The thing is, the neck feels wonderful, I love it!

I have a 20% off code for an online retailer and can get a new Mighty Mite J neck for like $80. The thing is, will I be happy with it, feel wise? Also, do I need to worry about it not being straight as an arrow? Do I spend more and go Warmoth? Other option?

Any advice or insight would be appreciated.

Thanks,
John

I bought one in April after playing the old neck on my P to death, and I love it. I've heard a lot of horror stories about MM quality, but they've definitely gotten much better since then.

There's a satin finish on the necks, which I really like the feel of. My only problem is that the finish is thin and is starting to wear off in a few spots. The maple that the neck is made out of is nice - very solid and it looks good too. I've only gotten one small ding on the neck since I bought it, which is saying a lot because I'm not the most graceful person. It's pretty sturdy and holds up well, and the feel of the neck is great. It's also got a brighter sound than my last neck, because it's made of better quality material.

i just bought the pbass neck for 100 bucks from amazon. and for a hundred bucks this thing is nice. the frets are level and ive had no complaints about it. and if youve got a discount to get one for 80 why not? aslong as you can live with it being a one piece neck.

My only complaint i guess would be that mighty mite needs to have more variety

I have a fretless with an ebanol fingerboard. No quality problems, nice finish. The only problem may be that it's so darn ordinary, and the maple is blindingly pale in color.

I like mine - a $79 Ebay special - It didn't fit perfectly into my Warmoth body, so I had to do some work on the neck pocket...

It's not the end-all/be-all solution, but mine feels nice - - Thin like an older J neck. The fretwork needed a touch-up - - but I have to think it'd be an improvement on an FMIM neck.

I have used 10 or 15 of the Mighty Mite necks and only had a small problem with one of them.

Mighty Mite is a subsidiary of Cortec, whom sold 51% of it's 2 million gtrs manufactured in 2006 to Fender...

I am rather positive you will get a good product.

I've heard very positive things about MightyMite. I'm in the process of trying to get a fretless neck from them right now.

Are these pre drilled? Do they come with a nut?

Total out of pocket cost after discount and gift card I had - around 60 bucks. Had to take a shot for that price. Thanks again for the advice and opinions.

THe neck I bought from ebay did not have any mounting holes predrilled, but it did have a nut. I've been happy with mine, other than the fact that I lose C on the G string in the mix. Typical.

They do have a nut, and if you buy them new, they are not pre-drilled.

I believe the nut is made of standard white corian - it's not plastic or anything like that.

Ditto. The nut was cheap plastic though, if you take it off you'll see it's one of those ultra cheap, hollow inside molded nuts.
