questions about pickguards

Sign in to disble this ad
i was wondering if it was possible to have a pick guard on a rear routed jazz bass? i like the look of having one not on, and having one on, so i'm wondering if its possible to have one on a rear route, or if the knobs effect it at all

thanks,
Alex

Are you talking about the pickguard or the control plate? The pickguard is the plastic piece up around the neck pickup, while on a J bass the control plate is the metal piece that the pots (knobs) are attached to.

Yeah it's entirely doable; the only thing is that you may need pots with longer threaded shafts. Depends on the specific pots your bass was built with. Alternately, you could have somebody rout out about 1/8" thickness inside the control cavity, around the pot holes, to compensate for the thickness of the control plate.
