quick answer...really fast, please.

when you read something about setting up a bass and they say the "4th string"...is that the low E, or the high G (on a standard 4 string)?....that may sound like a stupid question..but i really have no idea...and im trying to set my bass up before practice today.....can anyone answer that for me?

on a four string bass..

the 4th string is the low "E"
