Quick question about trussrod on acoustic

Sign in to disble this ad
I have never had an acoustic before, the trussrod is accessed at the base of the neck, inside the body. Which way way should I turn it to create more bow in the neck, I.e. more relief, I'm not sure b/c usually it's at the top of the neck on the headstock.

Thanks in advance!

Generally you turn the truss rod counter-clockwise to loosen it and thus add more relief. That's true whether the adjuster is at the headstock or at the bridge end of the neck.

Something to remember when LOOSENING a truss rod, ie, to allow more bow.....always turn it just a hair farther than is necessary, and then TIGHTEN BACK to where it needs to be. This "sets" the threads so the nut doesn't continue to loosen on it's own.

guys I still need help!

Which way do I look at the bass when considering which way is counterclockwise? Keep in mind that the trussrod is upside down going up through the neck, so do I turn it upside down and go counterclockwise with the bass upside down?

Inside the body, counterclockwise will loosen. That's with the neck pointing AWAY from you. Remember to tighten back up just enough to "set" the thread. I'd loosen 1/4 turn, and then reset just a hair.

nooooooooooooooooooooo

so i had it right the first time

reversed it for a two day period

and now I've been going the wrong way

Good to check at least

so if i'm sitting with the guitar in my lap, headstock/neck facing straight away with the bottom strap lock digging into my stomach, I should turn it counterclockwise?

thanks.........
