"quick release" bridge mod?

Sign in to disble this ad
I grew accustomed to the quick string changes on my warwick. I want the same comfort with my other basses but don't want to spend big money on designer bridges. Has anyone modified their stock bridge into a quick release bridge?

I've milled slots in several Schaller bridges. I'll take a photo, later, and post it.

You cant do such a mod unless you have some serious metal millimg/cutting equiptment. Along with the proper tools for smoothing out the cut part.

Well JLS, wouldnt the cost of the equiptment and a bridge to practice on before trying with the keepers, be a bit more then the cost of just getting top load bridge replacement bridges? Or would a lot of guitar techs have such equiptment and experience to do the mod for a low fee(less then cost of nice but inexpensive replacement bridge) for customers?

If you take the part to your local friendly machine shop (they're all over the place) I have no doubt that they'd be (1) more than up to the task without practice (2) happy to do the work (3) do it for less money than you'd think. Just another option.

I did 'em that way, too, a long time ago. Also used a drill press &
X-Y table. Now I have a mini-mill.

OP: There's a world of cheaper pop-in bridges available on ebay.
