Rattlin with new strings...

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok i just changed strings on my new marcus i never really have set up a bass before but i have read the tutorials and have a good idea of how to set up a bass.... i adjusted my truss road and action checked intonation and verything is good...
But when i play there is a kind of rattle is the best way i can explain it, it seems like its just like string talk because there new strings and very bright when i fret a string with my finger it clangs if that makes sense...

Can i fix this is it just like string talk and go away or is there something i can adjust to make it go away?

I just read this back and it sounds stupid but if anyone can understand what im trying to talk about and help me then please so...
Thanks guys

I don't know exactly what you call a rattle. Is it buzzing? Does it happen only on certain notes? Does it also happen on open strings? It could be a set up issue. Hard to tell from your terminology.

Sorry i know i didnt explain it well at all.... I guess you could call it a buzz it doesn't happen on open strings and its not a buzz that comes from my action being to low its just when i play and play notes or bass lines each not a play there is a noise when the string hits the fret....

Even that doesn't make sense maybe i shoulsstop because im sounding like im going insane!!

You're not going insane. It's just I can't quite track with you. If it happens as you press down on the string, maybe you're clamping down too hard with your left hand as you fret each note. You must be using fairly bright sounding strings and have lots of high end in your amp. Anyhow check out your technique.

Could it be that the new strings have less tension and you might need higher action to accomodate mor string movement?

It could be the tuners rattling. I had the same problem on my Marcus Miller.

Too bad they put such lousy tuners on such a great bass.

A set of Gotoh vintage tuners will drop right in and is a huge improvement.

Sounds great with my Markbass F1.
