I have i RBX 765 that i haven't played so much on and i need some help with adjusting it.
The Low B string seems a little sloppy and i would really like to fix that.

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Mar 2008 Location: Tifton,Georgia | | | Thats really just a problem with the bass. It comes with having a 34" scale 5 string. Some 34's have a pretty decent tension,others not so much. There isn't a whole lot you can do,maybe buy a heavier gauge B string.

| | | | I have the same bass. Sounds like you need a complete setup: Neck Relief, Pickup height, string height, and intonation. Once I got all of these corrected, floppy B String and fret buzz disappeared. Keep in mind your technique and style of play may make getting the perfect setup for every situation challenging, e.g. going form slap to fingerstyle. I hope it works out, because the RBX 765 is a great instrument. |

|  | I fling carrots | | Join Date: Jun 2002 Location: Make a left at the Taco Bell | | | The neck on that bass is a 1-piece Maple neck. Because of that, I think neck stability over time is hit or miss. Mine has been all sorts of stable. Other slabs of Maple may not be so solid over time.

If the setup doesn't improve how floppy the B-string is, you might consider looking into another string brand for the B. I've heard from some fairly accomplished luthiers that the key to getting a tight-feeling B-string is just finding the right brand/gauge. A few guys vouch that they even have 32" scale basses with really tight B-strings. You could even call a few strings manufacturers and get their input on how to cure a floppy B. |
