(re)Centering pickup in pocket

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all. Does anyone know how difficult it would be/what would be involved in re-centering a pickup in the pickup rout? I have an AV 62 Jazz, and currently both pickups are almost touching the left side of the pocket, with a large-ish gap to the right. Yes, the strings line up with poles as they should, but still... I want everything to look "right". Any help or comments would be appreciated.

You could dam the pocket on the right side, fill with epoxy, let cure. Sand the surface flat and re-route the pocket to fit the pups. A touch up or refinish might be in order for the filled are. Another option, you may use some veneer and super glue to fill the area, sand the top flush, touchup the color. Other than that, you might have to live with it.

Since the pickup routs are done by CNC, I assume they're where they're supposed to be. The pickups themselves were screwed in off-center.

Take the PU out...Fill the holes with tooth-pics and glue.
Put just the PU cover in the rout where you want it (then mark it with through the hole), and make new holes for the scews.

I would think having the pole pieces line up with the strings would be more important than having the pickup perfectly centered in the rout. How big of a gap are we talking about anyway 1/4 inch? I don't even think the folks in the front row of your audience would notice that let alone the back row.
