Re-soldering a pickup wire?

Sign in to disble this ad
One of the wires on my Fender '62 P-Bass pickup has broken or become un-soldered from its eyelet. How touchy a job is it to re-soldered the connection? I'm a bit leary of ruining the coil wire connection to the eyelet. I would appreciate suggested techniques.

I've done it before. Use rosin core solder. don't heat it up any longer than you have to. use a clip-on heat sink between the coil and the eyelet.

Practice on some thin wire to get the feel for it. The general idea is to heat the work so the solder will melt to it(solder "follows" the heat). Once you do it a bit you'll see how easy it really is.

The coil wire is fine -- it's wire that leads off to the pot is the one that's disconnected.
