re stringing to make left handed bass

Sign in to disble this ad
i've done this with a cheap 5 string i play with and experienced no problems, i've since heard people talking about this putting extra tension on the neck, how serious is this? i'm eyeing up a second hand stingray, which i would need to re string. is it worth it? or would i slowly destroy a beautiful bass?

thanks

Given:

1. Same strings
2. Same tuning

There will be no extra tension on the neck.

exactly what i thought, it was a dude in a guitar shop, who blatently just wanted me to order a left handed model for an extra 50/80 pounds.

thanks

While his methods may be suspect, a correctly handed instrument has some distinct advantages for the player. Everything is where it supposed to be. The instrument will balance more naturally. The controls, instead of tucked under the forearm, are out of the way. All contribute to an instrument that is easier to play. In the long run you will be happier. Why handicap yourself just to save a little money?

Now, at last, I am sure I have finally heard it all.

Right up there with some guy on Youtube saying it's important to pot your pickups because the wire REACTS Chemically with the air in the coil making it microphonic. Lemme guess, a guitard said the tension thing to you?

hmmm yeah i know, i play an upside down 5 string just now, and i'm quite used to considering the controls, and ajusting the weight so it sits right on the strap. saving money's important, i'm not talking about buying a right handed bass and saving 80 quid, i mean buying a second hand right handed bass for 700/800 as opposed to a new left handed version for 1,600

and yeah i think the guy was a guitar player.
