Recommend Me a Luthier!

Not sure if this violates the Talk Bass rules, but here goes.

I recently bought a used US Peavey Cirrus 4 bass, only to find that the truss rod was stripped. Not just the nut, the rod is stripped and frozen in place. My local luthier, whom I trust, suggests a new truss rod.

Repair of a Cirrus truss rod requires that the fingerboard be removed and a new truss rod be installed.

Peavey does not do this in their repair shop, and no one in my immediate area is willing to give this a try.

Is there a Talk Bass luthier who does this type of repair? I would try to get a truss rod from Peavey, so the parts would be provided.

Any suggestions from the vast Talk Bass audience? Would you have this bass repaired? The bass as it is is is playable, but the relief is a bit much, and I already have pretty light strings on it.

Or should I just play the darn thing?

Thank you in advance.

This is a decision you need to make. Is the cost of the repairs going to exceed the value of the bass? Is it worth it to you? Or might you be better off parting out the bass and finding a replacement?

Also, what is wrong with your local Luthier doing the job? You said you trust him. What does he think about doing the job?

Don't ask me, I'm still trying to find the #@$#& "trust rod" on a bass!

I would hesitate to use the phrase "very good bassist" in any association with my name
