recommendations for Vintage modified Jazz Bass Bridge upgrade

Sign in to disble this ad
I have two VM Jazz Basses. One is the maple fretboard with black block and the other is the VMJ Fretless. I've seen many comments about sound improvement from upgrading the bridge on various basses especially the low end Fender and Squier basses.

Is there a reasonably priced bridge that is a drop-in fit for my two basses? I would prefer NOT to have to drill holes to fit a better bridge.

The Gotoh 201 bridge should be a direct drop-in replacement; you can order on eBay or allparts.com!

The only reason I replaced my bridge is that I was worried about it bending because it was extremely cheap and flimsy.

If you're going to replace your bridge, do it for quality and reliability reasons rather than tone reasons.

There was absolutely NO difference in tone from the two bridges that I had. I've heard many other people say this as well; especially with the lofty claims that surround the Badass II.

I ordered one of these and should be receiving it tomorrow:

http://www.grizzlyindustrial.com/pro...e-Chrome/H5642

It should be a direct bolt-in. I am replacing the Fender style bridge on my new SX Jazz bass, not to improve the sound, but to upgrade the bridge mechanically. I have never liked the cheap Fender style bridges because the saddles slide sideways all the time. This new bridge has slots to keep the saddles lined up.

I'll post my opinion of the Grizzly bridge after I get it installed. If I like it, I'll order another for my P-bass.

I love Grizzly. If you don't like the bridge, they'll sell you a mill so you can make your own.

On the project bass I am doing I will most likely go with this bridge

The 203 looks like a fender bridge on steroids! I still may put a Fender 75 Bass bridge on the project, but the 203 really looks tasty to me!

Just be sure to note, there arwe 2 extra holes in the 203. Which on my SX project is no big deal but you should be aware of either leaving the holes alone and only using the 5 screws or having to drill 2 new holes in the VM.

It sure looks like it to me in any photo I have ever seen. Perhaps someone here knows for sure, or I will know for sure in a week or two....

I like hipshot bridges.

They also make a Stye "A" Fender retrofit I believe.
