Refinishing a Fender in the same colour: vintage value lost?

I'm curious to know is this actually false? I know that a vintage bass will lose value when refinished a different colour, but what if it's done in the same colour?

We're assuming that the bass has some serious cosmetic issues..not just mojo...think Keith Richards as he's getting out of bed...fugly

A refinish is a refinish whether or not it is a 'correct' color. It may be desired by fewer potential buyers due to it not being authentic, which I suppose could possibly affect it's selling price, but as long as you are not trying to pass it off as an original finish I'd paint it anyway you like!
Coral Pink is an original Fender color, but the market for a pink bass it derfinetely more limited than say, Candy Apple Red.
