Removable pickguard film?

Has anyone used removable pickguard film on an electric bass? I see plenty advertised for acoustic guitars that use static (no adhesive) but wasn't sure if it'll work ok/leave any marks on an electric bass finish. I just got a mint Ibanez RD500 that doesn't come with a pickguard and I'm worried about marking up the finish with my sloppy pick playing.

Why, no, how could you think that it won't work on a bass finish if it will on an acoustic guitar finish? Oy! Dude!

That aside, a clear coat top finish may turn cloudy over time with something stuck to it even with no adhesive. The finish can't breathe.My guess is that nitro finish would be more likely to and poly finishes not very likely to. I doubt those covers you mention will leave a residue.

Stew-Mac online sells transparent pickguard material that's adhesive on the bottom. Cut to fit and enjoy yourself.

You could try the screen protector film they use on iPhones and iPads.

Just use duct tape. Works great and looks good too. If you stuff cotton under it it make a really beautiful tuck-n-roll finish.

personally, I would prefer something that does not adhesive on it

how much area are you looking to cover?

Not much - rectangle between pickups and semi-circle between G and the knobs.
