Removable Strap Locks

Any body got an idea of a QUALITY product that is a removeable strap lock that I can just put on the strap hooks and then remove?

Somthing like what is on the end of this.

I have seen a few, but they look like crap. Anyone have experience with ones that are quality and work well?

I don't want to mess with the screws on the bass, as I will probably screw it up.

This?

Or I just use a rubber washer slipped over the strap peg with a center hole small enough to lock onto the peg.

Over a few decades I've seen a few, but none of them has looked or felt secure enough for me. And I don't play agressively.

Schaller strap locks are what I've used since about -85, and I don't see that to end any time soon.

It's not that hard if You follow the instructions and tips found on-line. The Schaller screws tend to be smaller than the OEM screws on most of the strap buttons, but if the original is long enough it can be used. Or the toothpick method can be applied.
IIRC, the Dunlop screw has larger diameter, so it'd be a direct replacement.

Seems reasonable - the rubber washer works well and doesn't come off either?

nope...I've never had one come off yet, but then again, I'm not slinging my bass over my head. I use Dunlop Straplocks as well but I have a few basses I can't really use them on so it's the ol' rubber washer trick for those. I try to find them that are fairly stiff and the hole has to be small enough so you have to force it over the peg...with that set up, I've not had a strap come off yet, knock on swamp ash...

yep

big phat thick rubber washers over the pins work perfectly, the strap locks i've had `outriggered' the straps and once removed and put on like a normal strap fitting=the bass(s),just felt better,i'm a narrow shouldered old phart and an inch either way makes a dif. to me

YMMVary of course(your local ACE hardware should have some

Thanks guys, I'm going to give it a try. I'm practicing with the band twice a week now and grabbing it before it falls is becoming more common than I would like. Hopefully we will be gigging in about 4-6 months or so. Sometimes I dig in, but it's mostly cover tunes fare so I'm not going to get too crazy.

I also didn't want to monkey around with the stock strap pins on my basses and guitars, and thought that the Planet Waves locks were the way to go. The problem is, Planet Waves doesn't have those strap ends on their bass straps. In addition, their bass straps suck! They aren't wide enough and they're slippery. In the end, I installed Schallers on my basses and limited those Planet Wave lockable straps to my guitars.
