Removing cosmo black /smoked chrome coating?

Sign in to disble this ad
Anybody know if it's possible to remove the cosmo black (Ibanez term) / smoked chrome coating from hardware (in this case a bridge)? I'm not a big fan of it and it's starting to come off anyway. Any ideas? Not sure what exactly gives it that dark color, and if it is possible to remove what will it look like underneath? I'm willing to experiment as i have a replacement bridge anyway.

I used Brasso. Seems to have worked pretty well.

It looks like silvery-gray chrome. Not quite as "white" and bright as some chrome but definitely not as dark as when it was "smoked." I think it was half worn off anyway.

Honestly it's hard for me to distinguish between chrome, smoked chrome, nickel etc because I don't have a single well-lit room in my whole house!
