If the goo is persistent, then I start with mineral spirits because it stays on the surface being cleaned longer than naphtha does. Then I finish up with naphtha.
GooGone I worry about sometimes near electronics and metal surfaces because with the citrus content, it could have a low pH and be corrosive if you don't clean it all off afterward.
With this type of goo removal, you have to be patient and thorough, because at first, you're just softening up the adhesive and smearing it around after it loads up your wiping cloth (I use paper towel). You have to keep after it with fresh paper towel and solvent until it's all gone. Takes longer than you might think. |

I just purchased a couple rack items that need it cleaned off.
I've schooled the band to leave duct tape away from cables. My cables, at least; I source the PA. |

+1 Goo Gone, WD40, lighter fluid | No need to hide; we've been doing that for awhile. AND pulling the tape up & THEN the cord. My cords, my rules; someone else can do whatever they want to their own cords. |

Seems like equal parts cleaner & elbow grease, & does the cleaning cloth ever clog up quick.
Thanks folks. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
