Removing nail polish

Sign in to disble this ad
The previous owner of my 83 Foundation put some nail polish to mark his fave settings (10 on the neck pup, 0 on the bridge, 0 on the tone, which is sorta dumb on this bass).

I would like to remove it. What product should I use which would not harm the polish? Not too worried about the metallic knobs. Thanks!

See photo below. It's been on there for ages (like 20 years):

Either lacquer thinner, acetone or nail polish remover will dissolve it. I don't know what your finish is though. If it's a poly finish, these products won't hurt it. Can you do a test somewhere where it won't show, like under a strap button?

A razor blade on the flat surfaces and acetone on the knobs.

Acetone (nail polish remover) shouldn't harm the finish unless you saturate it and let it sit, it might cloud the clearcoat. Agree with 62, you should test it under the pickguard (if equipped, I can't get pictures on this computer) or something out of the way. Untreated woods shouldn't be exposed to it a lot though, it does dry things out. QUestion though, why the would you need to mark those settings? Thats full on one and full off the others, isn't it. Dang, thats hard to remember.

Oh well, no comment about the former owner, it's my bass now.

The Super Ferrites get a lot of noise unless you put them at about the same level, then they cancel each other.

This bass could be a virgin bass, as really I have the 2 volumes at 10 all the time.

I will try some nail polish remover. Need to pick up some at the pharmacy today, as I am not a cross dresser.

I'm not either but I usually keep some nail polish remover at home. But acetone is just as easy to find as is lacquer thinner. They're more economical in the end if you use large amounts.
